Cupid: Am I Cursed By My Past?
Image by Jaap SteinvoorteCan a person be cursed? I was with a very wealthy, powerful man in the publishing business, although our relationship began as a professional one. He loved my work, and as time went by, he got interested in me romantically, and I got the feeling I had better return his interest if I wanted the job. I talked myself into finding him romantic. He turned out to be kinky and very aggressive sexually, and I couldn’t handle it. This is after two years of having a terrific time in his organization as a creative consultant. I haven’t found a job that comes close since. I feel like I can’t trust my judgment anymore. I am afraid to get close to someone else. How do I get back my innocence and trust of other people?

Cupid: I'm Upended by My Family
sad manI’m a man in my thirties and I've been drifting for many years. Miraculously, in the last few months my willpower has returned. I’ve been taking care of myself, in some ways for the first time: adequate housing, a steady job, and renewed enthusiasm for my real talent, sculpting. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or what, but recently my crazy family has been sending me hate mail, threatening to cut me off (I receive a stipend from a family business), and when I visited for the holidays, my mother actually ordered me out of the house, when she knew I had no other place to stay. They can still upset me, even though things are a lot better—can you help me deal with them? »

Cupid: She Slept With My Brother!
man on beachI know this sounds right out of Shakespeare, but my issue is that my beloved little brother, to whom I was so close when we were kids, came to visit me for a month from Russia and ended up sleeping with my wife. I sent them all to Disneyworld to experience America while I worked on my school papers, and this is what happened. Although this betrayal took place decades ago, I’m ashamed to say , and my wife chose to stay with me although she never denied loving my brother too, I think I am still fuming. How could she have destroyed our family and my own family of origin? »

Cupid: I Left. Why Do I Feel Bad?
woman unhappy
VeryTogether's psychic columnist answers all your questions about life and love!
Why, if I’m the one who left, and was relieved and exhilarated to be free, why am I still unresolved about the relationship? Why is the whole thing upsetting to me when I left for good reason? He was an Iraq war vet, one of the first to be deployed, and was fine for years when he came back. Then for some reason he developed PTSD, started drinking, and then started getting violent and almost killed me.  Bewildered »

It was about five years ago that we dated for the first time, and we had remained friends. We are having some problems and I'm not sure if I should try to make this work or if I should just walk away. I love him and I would like to see things work out between us, but I am not sure what to do.

Cupid: He's Wonderful, But...
affectionate male coupleI got together with this guy (I’m gay), and we have so much in common! He’s solid, spiritual—a really good person. But when we actually became intimate, there was a pulling back: I like hairy men and he had no hair! I’m going out with him again because there’s a lot of similarity, but what should I do with the fact I’m into bearish guys and he’s hairless? »

Cupid: Did I Jeopardize My Chances?
sad womanI was in a relationship and I thought he was the one—I was totally, absolutely in love. I gave him five years to commit and he wouldn’t, and then I found out that in the last year he’d been cheating on me. That was seven years ago, and I’m wondering if I set up some pattern that stops me from finding love again. I have a lot to give but I’m afraid it will be taken away from me. Did I do something bad to my future prospects by attracting this person who hurt me?
